Exploring Usability and User Experience of an Autonomous Driving System
A US -based technology company was preparing the launch of its demo for automated driving in Japan and wanted to explore usability and user experience of its product with Japanese drivers.
Our Work
- 20x 1h UX interviews at facility with drivers, aged between 20-60 and living in Greater metropolitan Tokyo (urban and suburban areas)
- The interview structure considered some measurements that were more of qualitative nature, some being more observational/ethnographic, and some being more quantitative
The Outcome
- Clear indications on usability acceptance, understanding of the system and navigability of each possible control option
- Watchouts to improve information architecture of the entire experience and visuals (including color, what icons mean, perceived objects, labels, etc.)
“Some of the research results were unique and quite Japan-specific in that sense, and didn’t come out from other market studies. Thus, we are glad that we took the time to conduct the research in order to inform the localization of our product to the market.”
