Exploring Take-Out/Delivery/Dining Out Habits of Japanese Consumers
An internet search company from the U.S. was interested in how Japanese consumers make decisions and search for information when deciding not to cook at home. They wanted to understand the role of take-out, how delivery apps were used, and how online reservation/review sites were utilized in the decision-making process to “eat out”. They also wanted to explore the strengths and weaknesses of each of these different options.
Our Work
- Conducted a 4-day online bulletin board where consumers gathered to answer various questions about their dining habits and how they feel their experiences could be improved
- All participants were asked to write a 4-day food diary in which they uploaded pictures of their meals 3x a day with an explanation on how they purchased that meal and any strong/weak points to the process
The Outcome
- From the comprehensive research, the clients were able to understand the preferred search methods/process and trusted review websites when looking for new restaurants or delivery options
“Thank you so much for helping us to explore and understand the different options available in Japan when looking to eat out. This was truly a wonderful learning experience into the eating out habits of the Japanese consumer.”
