Capturing Consumer Feedback on a Premium Scotch Whisky Bottle Redesign

A foreign premium whisky producer with growing recognition in Japan sought to enhance and modernize its packaging design to stay relevant and competitive in the market. The study aimed to refine the bottle and label design by considering the cultural nuances and unique preferences of key markets, with Japan being one among several focus regions.

Our Work

  • Conducted 3 x 2-hour FGIs with men and women in their 30s-40s who are habitual premium Scotch whisky drinkers, demonstrating interest and knowledge in the category
  • Included a sorting exercise where participants assessed whisky bottle designs, including key competitors, to explore how brand image and design influence perceptions of premiumness
  • Tested new bottle prototypes, gathering culturally relevant insights on shape, aesthetics, and overall premium appeal

The Outcome

  • Identified the most attractive bottle designs options among different genders and age groups, as well as their impact on product impressions
  • Attended the end client presentation as representatives of the Japan market

“Extremely professional and organized. Excellent recruiting, moderating and simultaneous translation.
I was very impressed with the team and would absolutely work with them again!”
